The Truth About Who You Are

The Truth about Who you are - Diane Swan.png

The enemy loves to try to tell us who we are.

He insidiously sneaks into our mind. Tainting our thoughts, he attempts to turn them from truth into lies.

Lies that tell us we are insignificant, inadequate, insufficient, incompetent, and insecure.

Within the confines of our mind we begin to question who we really are in the darkened shadows of his disparagement.

If only we would remember this one truth when he hisses in our ears . . . the devil is a liar!

He speaks lies.

Lies meant to discourage, depress, derail, and ultimately devour our souls.

Since he has no ability to create, he instead tries to manipulate. Taking truth he turns it into lies, attempting to plant it deep into our mind, and our identity. But no matter how much he tries, lies are never truth.

John 8:44 tells us that the devil is a liar and the father of lies–there Is no truth In him. In fact, whatever the devil speaks, the opposite of what he says is the truth. We do not live in the devil’s lie, but instead we live in Christ who not only speaks truth, but He is The Truth.

In Christ we are significant. In Christ we are adequate. In Christ we are sufficient, competent and secure. We are everything we need to be in Christ.

The devil has taken those two little letters, i and n, placed them before words of truth in attempt to adhere our identity to lies. May we always remember were they truly belong.

This term “in Christ” is used 160 times in the holy scriptures, 36 times in the book of Ephesians alone. Paul wrote to the people of Ephesus with a burning desire in his heart to strength their faith by revealing a larger scope of God’s eternal purpose of redemption for believers in Christ. He wanted every believer to be built up and walk in the identity and power of who they are in our glorious Savior.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.  For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to son-ship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will – to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.” Ephesians 1:3-6

We have been blessed with every spiritual blessing. We have been chosen, and predestined to be born again into his glorious graces, and live a life in the fullness of Christ.

That is the truth of who we are. That is the truth of our identity.

Take time to identify the lies the enemy has slipped into your mind, and let the light of truth shine brightly upon them.

Let’s pray:

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank you for loving me enough that you left heaven all those years ago, to come to earth so that I may have eternal life in you. Please help me everyday remember your great sacrifice, and the gift I have received because of it. Assist me to walk in the truth of who I am in you, untainted by the lies and manipulations of the enemy. Remind me in moments of weakness that I am all that you say I am, and no less. Thank you Jesus, in your precious name I pray, Amen.
