The Snooze Button
Each morning, my alarm sounds at exactly 5:35 AM. I realize that might make me sound like an early bird, but let me tell you a little secret: I don’t actually wake up at 5:35 each morning.
The snooze button is one of the best inventions ever. When you press this button, the alarm will delay for 9 minutes, giving you more time to catch those precious zzz’s. It is absolutely glorious.
Yet, the snooze button is also one of the worst inventions ever. After pressing it a few too many times, it has often caused me to rush around the house frantic and frenzied. I am notorious for pressing it over and over again, just so that my head can stay on the pillow a little bit longer!
As I have been thinking about this bad habit of mine, I realized that I tend to hit another snooze button, too.
I don’t know about you, but sometimes when the Lord asks me to do something, I hit the “snooze button” before obeying. Rather than doing the task immediately, I wait a little while, make excuses, or explain to Him that I am unqualified.
However, Psalm 119:60 says, “I will hurry, without delay, to obey your commands.”
In other words, “I won’t hit the snooze button.”
When He asks us to do something, our response should be immediate. Our feet should hit the floor right away.
The other day, the Lord put someone on my heart, and I felt a nudge from the Holy Spirit to reach out her. But I was hesitant to do so and kept putting it off. I said things like, “Maybe she doesn’t want to hear from me,” and “I don’t want to be a bother!” Eventually, I acted in obedience, but I definitely hit the “snooze button” a few times.
I have heard it said that “One immediate action is far better than a million good intentions.” So often, we have good intentions to do something, but we keep delaying it until the opportunity has expired.
Today, I challenge you to turn that good intention into an immediate action. If the Lord is laying something on your heart, be obedient right away.
Don’t hesitate.
Don’t delay.
Don’t hit the snooze button.
Just say, “yes.”
