Power

“We have no heat in this house, it’s freezing!” were the words from my husband in a text message a few weeks ago. In which I quickly replied, “oh no!” but in the back of my mind I thought, well our furnace is pretty old and maybe it’s time to get a new one, but also hoping and praying that it was a quick and easy inexpensive fix. I was confident that Micah was going to take care of the plans to get it repaired and that everything was going to be okay.

I arrived home that Sunday afternoon and I took one step inside of our house and it was without a doubt FREEZING! We bundled up and waited for a call back from our friend who specializes in heating and cooling.

To make a short story short our heat was working again within 24 hours! It so happened that the flame in our furnace went out. Since I do not know all the appropriate terms for furnaces, I’ll just say that the parts that needed replaced were the ones that kept the flame going. Once the diagnosis was made it was an easy fix and we were able to keep our old furnace… for now!

I share that story with you because it had me thinking of the Holy Spirit’s fire which is God’s power within us. Just like our furnace has a flame which is the power source to heat our home, the Holy Spirit’s flame within us is God’s power to change the atmospheres and circumstances around us for His glory!

We must protect and fan the flame so that the fire within us does not go out.

Do you remember the song, This Little Light of Mine? “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine. Oh, this little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine…”

We need God’s power which is the flame that burns like fire in our lives. This is not just for us to keep for ourselves, but it is for everyone around us and for this world.

I believe that God wants His people to burn for Him once again. To re-ignite that fire, to fan the flame, and to ask Him to bring forth His fire once again in our lives.

It says in Romans 15:13, “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

The enemy does not want us to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit and he will do whatever it takes to snuff out the fire within us.

We must remind ourselves that the power of God is greater than plans and schemes of the enemy.

The Kingdom of light triumphs over the kingdom of darkness.

1 Corinthians 4:20 says, “For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power.”

As children of God, we now live and operate according to God’s Kingdom.

It says in 2 Peter 1:3, “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one how called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.”

The enemy wants us to think that our current circumstances dictate our future but that is a lie. Because as children of God we have the power through the Holy Spirit to speak to our circumstances and to trust in Jesus who holds our future.

2 Timothy 1:7 says this, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self–discipline.”

If the word of God is God-breathed, then it’s His breath (His word) that will provide the oxygen for the fire we need for the flame in our lives to continue to burn.

His Word is the source in keeping the FLAME LIT in our lives. Allow His breath to breathe upon and in your life once again, so that Holy Spirit fire can be reignited and burn continuously for His glory!

Ephesians 3:20 says this, “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”

God’s plans for our lives are SO much greater than the plans we have for ourselves. His plans are not based on our current circumstances either!

With God’s power, ANYTHING can CHANGE.

We need His power in our lives to overcome the enemy, to change atmospheres, to change circumstances, and to show the world His glory.

We need His word to breathe upon our lives to fan the flame within us, and to be our firm foundation of TRUTH we stand on.

We need His fire in our lives to burn so that the world can see the Kingdom of Light within us which brings HOPE.

Every single one of us has the opportunity to SHINE for Jesus.

May we confidently and joyfully say today “I’m going to let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!”
