New Shoes
In November of 2023, at the Fall Inspire Conference, Liz formally passed the baton of leadership my way. It was a dear and holy moment for me. We also were able to honor Liz for her exemplary 5 years of leadership to the women of PennDel (complete with a puppy!). That weekend, many ladies said to me, “You have big shoes to fill!” Yes, ma’am, did I ever know it! Now I’ve always admired Liz’s flair for fashion, but I knew the reference of the statement was to that of the work of the ministry. Not only does Liz wear a larger shoe size than I do, but she has a lot more experience under her belt. But I also knew God had fashioned me for what was ahead.
The growing feet of a child can be difficult to outfit. This is the season I know I am in. New shoes can feel a little floppy or odd to start. Finding the right size and fit can be tedious. When searching for the right shoe, in the right color and style, it takes hours! One shoe can feel too tight, while another slides off the back of the foot! But, the Lord has set out a new pair of shoes for me! The fit and fashion are on point! Grace and patience will be required as I break them in. I may even need a few band-aids to cushion areas of wear on my feet. The shoes will mold to my foot as I walk in His ways. And as I am outfitted in the armor of God, the shoes will carry peace. I certainly have stepped into the shoe print of someone else, but the new season bares a new pair altogether for me. I will soon find that these “shoes” will become my favorite. I must trust that Jesus is a great fashion expert as He leads me to all that He has awaiting.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
My first official day was Friday, March 1st. The days preceding were spent together with Liz as we wrapped up planning details and laughed a lot together. As I departed her home to head to the Network Office, she walked me to my car and handed me my bag just like a mom would. I am forever indebted to her care and guidance in my life. And she’s just a phone call away!
Perhaps you are in a season of “new shoes!?” Remember that the Lord picked them out Himself, especially just for you. Don’t resist His selection for you. Let Him then lead you on the path of His good plans!
Cheers to Liz’s 5 years and here’s to God’s best for all of us ahead! Thankful to serve you!
